Denture Cleaning

How to Keep Your Dentures Clean

It’s important to clean your dentures each day to maintain their appearance and for your overall oral health. Just like your natural teeth, tartar, bacteria, and plaque can build up on your dentures. Not only can this affect how your dentures look, but it can also cause harm to your existing teeth and gums.

Here are some helpful tips for daily denture cleaning:

  • Remove your dentures at least once a day to run them under clean water and remove any stuck food particles
  • Use a soft toothbrush or a denture brush along with a mild soap or denture cleaner to brush your dentures
  • Rinse your dentures well after cleaning them before returning them to your mouth

While your dentures are out of your mouth, use this time to clean any remaining natural teeth and your gums. Start by using a soft, wet toothbrush and fluoridated toothpaste. If this is uncomfortable, you can wrap your finger in a wet washcloth to brush your gums.

What does a denturist do?

Denturists play an integral role in the dental healthcare profession. A denturist can provide denture care directly to the public. Their services include patient examinations, the design and construction of dentures, and denture repairs and relines.

Is a denturist the same as a dentist?

No, a denturist is not the same as a dentist. Denturists are independent, self-regulated dental professionals who work in conjunction with dentists and other oral healthcare providers to provide denture services to their patients.

Are dentures right for everyone?

Dentures aren’t always the right solution for every patient. But for many people, the provide an effective, comfortable, and cost-effective solution to many of their dental and oral health concerns.
